Home / Traction elevator
Steel ropes over a motor-driven sheave, balanced by a counterweight — the system that carries more people, over more floors, using less energy per trip.

Traction How it works
A traction elevator operates using steel ropes or belts connected to a motor-driven sheave. The system moves the car smoothly with the help of a counterweight, so the motor only lifts the difference in weight rather than the whole car. That is what makes traction efficient and balanced, and why it stays comfortable at higher speeds.

The drive varies both voltage and frequency to the motor, so the car accelerates and decelerates along a curve rather than a step. You feel it as a soft start, a soft stop, and a floor level that matches the landing every time — no lip to trip on.
